Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Jessica.  I am a high school English teacher in Michigan.  I am currently finishing up my Master’s in Reading Education and working towards my certificate as a Literacy Specialist.  Teaching and reading are both my passions.  When a student tells me he or she loves a book he or she has stumbled upon in my classroom, I feel as though I have truly accomplished something.  I am also a pretty avid reader myself.  I read all types of books in different genres.  I have been reading quite a bit of Young Adult Literature lately to find titles for my students and because I truly enjoy the novels.  I always tell my students I am jealous that these books did not exist when I was their age.  I am counting down with my students and co-workers for the release of The Hunger Games in theatres.

I am also planning my wedding which will take place in July.  My fiance and I love the Detroit Red Wings and spending time with our terrier mix Taylor.  Along with reading, I enjoy working out, Zumba, spending time with family and friends, and laughing.

I plan on using this blog as a place to share teaching and reading experiences.  I will share a great book I have come across.  I may also talk about things working in my classroom and those things that may not be working so well.  I am a true believer that I don’t teach books; I teach readers.  Thank you for stopping by and I hope you gain something from in here.
